OUR STORY

HOW IT STARTED

In 2001, Amanda was living in California, selling art and jewelry under her business, “Minnie Designs” (Minnie is a childhood nickname). Shortly after moving to California, she met her husband, Matt Allen, and they married six months later. Amanda was always intrigued by the wedding industry and became increasingly drawn to the large production weddings done by big names such as Preston Bailey, Colin Cowie, and Marcy Blum. She and Matt noticed the emerging market of these larger production weddings and decided to follow their dreams of going into business together. In 2005, after moving to Tampa ,FL, Minnie Designs evolved into Matt & Minnie Designs – DBA MMD Events! Amanda and Matt were willing to adopt any new trend that surfaced in the wedding industry and add it to their catalog of services; event design, wedding planning, invitations by hand, full floral production, lighting, draping and more.

From the beginning, Amanda knew she wanted the company to focus solely on design, although no other business was considered “design only” at that time. By 2009, Amanda turned her dream into a reality, and MMD Events became a strictly design and production company with a 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse. Simultaneously, she started a subsidiary company called iHeart Vintage– the first vintage furniture rental company on the East Coast. With Amanda’s designs and growing inventory, MMD began making it’s mark in the luxury wedding sector.

In 2016, Matt started his own local distillery (Dark Door Spirits) and Amanda became the sole owner of MMD Events. In the same year their beautiful daughter, Ruby, was born.

WHERE WE’VE BEEN

By 2017, MMD Events was known executing both luxury weddings and major social galas, alike. Throughout the years, they produced The Agricultural Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. during the Obama era, DeBartolo Charity Gala, Magnolia Ball, Starlight Gala, and more. After 2017, the production value of every wedding and gala went through the roof. As the intricacy and level of production skyrocketed, MMD Events minimized its number of events and officially became a high-level, luxury event design company.

By 2018, iHeart Vintage was completely phased out as trends for events shifted. The beginning of 2019 is when MMD Events began considering a change in their business model. With the impact of Covid and our warehouse lease coming to an end, the transition that MMD was easing into was accelerated. We relocated to a smaller warehouse, only purchasing items that are not available on the market and keeping the items that were designed to be customizable. The market started filling with exceedingly bright and creative vendors along with an intriguing amount of standout rental pieces. This made it possible for MMD Events to produce one of a kind, showstopping events time and time again with the best inventory and vendors in the wedding industry. Due to this shift, the individuality of our events greatly levelled up as the need to reuse our own personal inventory was completely diminished.
